This is The Parable of the Good Shepherd and we take it up before the good shepherd starts to get some context. In John 9:40, Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?" Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.
So he's going to speak about the Good Shepherd and Jesus describes who the man who indubitably is who sees from a man who is spiritually blind. Okay, and the Good Shepherd starts in John 10:1, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep supervene him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means will they supervene a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of the strangers."
Okay, let us have a look at this pert of the parable. There are a number of points here. First of all, the man who isn't teaching Jesus isn't the right person. So every one else who preaches an additional one way to God is not right because Jesus later on identifies him as the door in verse 9, Jesus says, "I am the door. If whatever enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." So when Jesus is talking about the door here, he's talking about whatever who approaches their faith straight through Jesus is right and whatever who preaches a distinct God than Jesus is not okay.
I to now integrate here essentially on this verse 3 which says:
"to him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out."
First of all, be aware that Jesus knows everyone of you by name. everyone of you who are a Christian, he knows by the first name and when you start talking to Jesus, and he starts talking to you in the spirit, you can ask him to address you by name at the starting of the sentence. So you can be walking down the road and then have a thought, "Matthew, I want you to go down the shops first before you go to church." And because He said Matthew at the starting of your thought, you know it's not your own understanding but it's Jesus speaking to you. So essentially when you start to convention hearing Jesus speak to you in an audible sentence in your spirit, you can ask him to address you by name.
Secondly is, "My sheep, hear my voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out." There are so many Christians who don't hear Jesus. Probably 90% of the people who call themselves Christians, probably even 90% of people who call themselves Born Again Christians have not and cannot hear the voice of Jesus. They don't recognize His voice. This is something that should not be so. I pray right now in the starting of this Jesus would start to talk to each of you and start to speak in your mind and he would address you by name, "John, I indubitably love you. Did you know that?" and just start to speak sentence to you. I ask you Jesus for every man reading this book that you start to talk to them and address them by name. So, that's the first point that Jesus addresses his own sheep by name and secondly his sheep are meant to hear him speak..
Verse 4 says, "And when he brings out his sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep supervene him, for they know his voice." Now, if you're a sheep of Jesus, if you're a true follower of Jesus, you supervene what he tells you to do. Your life shouldn't be a mish mash of wrong decisions and decisions that you based on your own flesh. When you're a true follower of Jesus, you're following the steps that he's giving you. He's prominent you and he's prominent your life and showing you the way to do things and what decisions to make to believe in his excellent will. If you're not living that way, well then you should be and you should ask Jesus to start to give you directions and show you which way to go.
So many times, this parable is preached and no one makes an emphasis of the fact that people have got to be listening to Jesus and it says in Proverbs "that a righteous man steps are ordered by the Lord." This means man who's a Christian who walks in the righteousness of Jesus Christ because of the fact that they are a Christian, they should be having the steps ordered. They should be having the steps planned by God himself.
Verse 5 should give you some comfort in these times.
Verse 5 "yet though by no means supervene a stranger but will flee from him for they do not know the voice of strangers."
Many people write blogs and tell people to watch false prophets and to stop following sure people because they're teaching wrong doctrine. The point of this is when you know the voice of the Holy Spirit; you know the voice of Jesus, when man starts speaking you can recognize with the Holy Spirit is speaking straight through him. You can recognize the voice of the Saviour straight through what is being said by a person. Some people can start to speak and suddenly your antenna goes off that this is not indubitably God speaking straight through them. Now the man could still be a Christian and just be teaching wrong teaching that's not arrival from God. So, rest assured that you're protected.
Verse 7, then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep." In other words, there's no other door to heaven. There's no other way that you can be a follower of Jesus but to supervene Jesus Himself.
"All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them."
He's not talking about the prophets here. He's not talking about the prophets that they spoke in the Old Testament. They are all true spokesmen of God. The people He is he referring to here are the teachers of the law and the Pharisees that have come before Jesus and he says they were thieves and robbers. They weren't preaching the truth. They weren't preaching the truth of the Word of God. They were teaching in the wrong spirit of the Lord. The motivations were wrong in what they were teaching.
Verse 9, "I am the door. If whatever enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."
Pasture is what you eat as a sheep and it gives nourishment. If you give your life to Jesus Christ, you'll be nourished by Him on the things that are good. So if you're not a Christian and you're reading this book, Jesus indubitably is the riposte to the true life.
Verse 10, "the thief does not come except to steal, and kill, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
The allowable Christian life is not only living. It is not only getting by week by week but having such an fullness in your provisions, such an fullness in your wage that you can give to others and share freely with others. In fact, the life of Christ should be full of peace, joy, comfort, understanding, personal satisfaction and personal fulfillment in life. You shouldn't be wandering around wondering what the will of God is and wondering if you'll ever find peace. The allowable Christian life is an fullness of all good things and I'm sure that you've got that message as you've been reading this book and listening to the video series on YouTube.
Verse 11, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep."
Jesus Christ laid down his life and was willingly crucified on a cross to die for our sins and you can ask any Christian more about that if you're not a Christian.
Verse 12, "but a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf arrival and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and I'm known by My own."
The hireling can be a man who's in the ministry as posing as a pastor of God but when problem comes to a sure member of his congregation, he might not take the time to go out and help that man with his congregation. I personally have not found a pastor in the last 10 years that hasn't loved me and hasn't been there when I needed him when I needed him to be. A allowable pastor isn't just a hireling they're true slave of God and they're a good shepherd themselves.
Bad shepherds/hirelings do exist and this wouldn't be here if it didn't exist. If you're in a church and the pastor doesn't indubitably have time or doesn't indubitably care for your concerns, you need to find a church small enough that the pastor has a vested interest in your life. I know Robbin who did the transmit in this book is a pastor who's deeply interested in my life and if I don't join together with her once a week, she wants to know what's going on. If I'm missing out of our community center for a week and I'm scarce and it goes on more than a week, she'll be ringing me at home ask me what's wrong. That's what a true pastor is.
Verse 14, "I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own."
When you're a true Christian, when you're a prosperous Christian, when you're walking in the allowable Christian faith, you should know Jesus. You should know him very well. You should know about him. You shouldn't just have head knowledge of Jesus. You should have an experiential knowledge of Jesus; knowledge based on experience. You should be able to share many stories about Jesus, about what he did and how he saved you from this and how he showed you this and how he did this and my life wouldn't be the same. You should be able to confess that your life would be totally useless and totally lost and without a meaning if Jesus wasn't in your life. If your relationship with Jesus isn't like that, if it's isn't something supernatural well then there's a better life of Jesus that you can experience. I imagined as you're reading this book, many of you would love the life I have with Jesus and the good news is, you can have that life. We just got to pray that you can move in to that.
Verse 15, "As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for My sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there'll be one flock and one shepherd."
Jesus is talking there about the gentiles that are people who are not Jews will become Christians one day and both the Jewish Christians and the Christians who are gentiles, the non-Jews, will all be one flock one day and there's a lot of denominations in the world and there's a lot of break offs of denominations in the world. Jesus is prophesying there that we'll all be one flock one day and everyone will be in peace and unity.
Verse 17, "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again."
Jesus laid down his life, was crucified in the cross for our sins and then miraculously came back to life and it was seen by many people.
Verse 18, "No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. This command I have received from My Father."
So, a good shepherd will put his life on the line against predators to his sheep. Jesus allowed Satan to kill him in order to recovery us. He is a grand shepherd and if he is a true shepherd of yours, you need to pray a prayer and believe him faith what I said in here that Jesus will start talking. You need to start and talk to him back.
